Earth Week at Penn Charter

Earth Week at Penn Charter centered around Earth Day, April 22, and stretched throughout the week, including programming in all three divisions around environmental stewardship. 

As part of Earth Week at Penn Charter:

• Lower School students participated in a March for the Earth around campus (see photos on Flickr) and had a no-waste lunch. 
• Middle School students are researching environmentalists in their science classes, helping to clean up around campus, and will hear from Alex Wildman, an avid rock climber and cancer survivor. More on Wildman. 
• Upper School volunteers hiked and helped clean up at Wissahickon Park along the bike trail that parallels Lincoln Drive, and students completing the Environmental Certificate presented term papers at lunch on Tuesday. 
• Opportunities to tour and work in the PC Learning Gardens are open to students Thursday morning. Last week, pre-K students and parents worked in the learning gardens after school. 
• Faculty members will meet on Wednesday for a plant swap and to learn about dividing plants in your garden. 

Throughout the week, Penn Charter is collecting e-waste. Bins for old or broken electronics are in divisional lobbies and collection will end on Friday, April 26. 

Rounding out Earth Week is an all-school service opportunity, the annual creek clean-up in Harper's Meadow. Join the PC crew team on Saturday, April 27 at 9:00 a.m. More details and registration.

PC thinks green all year long! Three recent examples include: participation in the Global Youth Climate Strike; discussion and activity around bicycling to school; and ongoing efforts to reduce waste in the cafeteria.
