MLK Day of Service

For the 28th year, the Penn Charter community gathered to honor Martin Luther King Jr. at the school's annual day of service and learning on and off campus on Jan. 15. The morning began with remarks in the Meeting Room from Head of School Karen Warren Coleman, fifth-grade students, and special guest speaker Jameson Ford OPC '20.

Following the remarks, attendees dispersed throughout the Upper School to engage in learning sessions facilitated by both PC students and faculty, covering indigenous storytelling, MLK Day-connected read-alouds, as well as discussions on fair trade, sustainable fashion, impact investing, and activism through film.

The latter part of the morning was dedicated to on and off-campus community engagement projects. Projects included upcycling dog toys for the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA), writing cards for residents at Cathedral Village, assembling food packs for East Falls Community Fridges and Food Moxie, as well as hygiene bags for Face to Face, and making no-sew fleece blankets for Turning Points.

About Jameson Ford OPC '20

Jameson Ford is a Penn Charter lifer and OPC '20. During his time at PC, he co-founded the Food Security Club. Currently a senior at Villanova University, he is pursuing a double major in Sociology and Peace & Justice, with minors in Communications and Criminology. As a proud Penn Charter community member, Jameson has stayed connected, making visits over the years to share his story and experiences with our students.

Reflecting on the opportunity to return to PC and share remarks at the 28th Annual MLK Day of Service, Jameson said, "Many of the Quaker values that Penn Charter upholds have played a crucial role in shaping the leader I am today. I felt honored to deliver a message to students, parents and caregivers, faculty, and staff, shedding light on some of the work I have been involved in over the years."
