More Than My Looks

(Linocut, paper, mod-podge)

The inspiration behind this piece came from things I have experienced in my life. I can think of too many times when I have been dismissed because of my gender. It is a far too common belief that girls and women only care about clothing, shoes, and makeup. As much as I love these things, I am so much more than that. As a society, we tend to focus on looks and make assumptions. This is belittling to anyone who is subject to these stereotypes, because appearance only makes up a small fraction of a person and it definitely doesn’t define someone’s value. I hope when people look at this piece, girls are reminded that they are so powerful. I also hope this is a reminder to everyone to empower the women around us and never try to define someone’s value based on their looks.
